MIAMI (Reuters) – More than 2,000 Miami students walked out of class and took to the streets on Friday in a show of solidarity with Daniela Pelaez, 18, a high school valedictorian ordered to leave the United States by an immigration judge who denied Pelaez’s request for a green card.
Pelaez was born in Colombia and brought by her parents to the United States when she was four. Pelaez grew up in the Miami area after she and her family overstayed their tourist visas. Pelaez’s lawyer is appealing the decision.
