On January 24,  Gov. Tom Corbett signed into law Pennsylvania’s Act 110 of 2011, which turns death certificates (after 50 years) and birth certificates (after 105 years) into public records.

Beilder reports:

While changing the law was deemed necessary because the Department of Health’s Bureau of Vital Statistics would not allow access by genealogists to the records under the “research” section of the statute governing the records, the hope is to enhance this access even further.
