Gina M. Thomas, coordinator of the Phila. OGC Pro Bono Clinic is look for attorneys to volunteer with the PA Office of General Counsel’s Pro Bono Disaster Relief Legal Clinic to benefit victims of recent flooding incidents.
As you may already know, Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee have devastated certain areas of Pennsylvania. Obviously, minorities and the economically disadvantaged are among some of the most hard hit by these natural disasters.
The Phila. FEMA/PEMA Disaster Relief Center is located at 111 S. 15th St. in Philadelphia. This center will remain open until approximately September 30, 2011. The Pro Bono Legal Clinic is situated in the relief center among the other government agencies which are working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency to provide housing relief and aid to flood victims.
Typically, the Legal Clinic volunteers may answer questions related to landlord-tenant disputes, contractor scams, insurance coverage, real estate and repair responsibility, and bankruptcy questions.
If attorneys would be willing to volunteer their time, this would greatly assist our efforts to assist impacted residents and show the community that its attorneys are here to help. Some residents may need to retain legal counsel either pro bono or by fee arrangement.
To sign up for a volunteer shift for the PA OGC Disaster Flood Relief Pro Bono Clinic, please visit Volunteer Shifts – Philadelphia DCR. Shifts are only 2 hours long.
