ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) – Rafael Mora-Lopez, 47, an illegal immigrant from Mexico who admitted faking U.S. citizenship while serving as an Anchorage police officer for six years, was sentenced to three months in prison. In addition, Mora-Lopez was fined $10,000 and three years of supervised release after his jail term.
In April 2011, Mora-Lopez was arrested and charged with passport fraud and falsely claiming to be a citizen. For over twenty years, he was known as Rafael Espinoza. Mora-Lopez pled guilty in June 2011. The fraud came to light when both men, claiming to be Rafael Espinoza, applied for passport renewals.
